Vista Higher Learning was founded with one mission: to raise the teaching of languages to a higher level. Years of experience working with leading textbook publishers convinced us that more could be done to offer students and instructors superior learning tools and to give students a more profound language-learning experience. Along the way, we questioned everything about the way textbooks and technology support the teaching of languages and promote sound student learning.
In fall 2000, our focus was on introductory college Spanish. The result was VISTAS: Introducción a la lengua española, a textbook and coordinated package of ancillaries that looked different and were different! PANORAMA, a briefer text based on VISTAS, followed in fall 2001. We took a fresh look at introductory college Spanish and found that hundreds of Spanish instructors liked what they saw. In just two years, VISTAS and PANORAMA became the most widely adopted introductory college Spanish programs in more than two decades.
Over the last few years, we have expanded our offerings for introductory Spanish and added others for intermediate and conversation courses. Keeping firmly in mind our pledge to provide innovative, learner-centered alternatives to the standard offerings, Vista Higher Learning continues to develop and launch new language textbooks. In 2005, we pioneered online Spanish language instruction by launching the ground-breaking EN LINEA program, based on the successful VISTAS textbook program.
